Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has earned more than £1m (€1.16m) from speaking at conferences and other events abroad since resigning in September, according to the House of Commons register in which MPs register their incomes.
Boris Johnson — who retains the MP seat and is therefore required to declare his income on the register — has traveled to the US, Portugal and India in recent months to speak at conferences.
His fee for each of those speeches ranged between €250,000 and €322,000, according to the document published on the House of Commons website.
Johnson left Number 10 Downing Street in September after being forced to resign under the weight of the scandals that emerged.
He tried to return to power after his successor, Liz Truss, resigned, but eventually withdrew his candidacy and former finance minister Rishi Sunak took over as Conservative leader and British prime minister.
Johnson, however, took care not to close “doors”, knowing that he remains popular among the Tories and some political analysts consider it very likely that he will contest his return to the leadership of the Conservative Party in the future.
