An explosion occurred in the Urengoi-Pomary-Uzhhorod natural gas export pipeline, which carries gas from Russia’s northwestern Siberia through Ukraine, Reuters reports, citing the RBC news agency.
According to RBC, the accident occurred near the Volga city of Kazan, and after the explosion it was suspended from 1:50 p.m. (12:50 Greek time) the natural gas flow of part of the pipeline. Gazprom, for its part, announced that the flow of gas, which continues through a parallel pipeline system, is not disrupted.
The regional emergency ministry in Russia’s Chuva Republic said it received a call about a gas pipeline fire, without naming the pipeline. The pipeline blew up during scheduled maintenance work near the village of Kalinino.
