The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has reportedly canceled all his other obligations for today in order to have successive contacts with scientists, advisers and ministers regarding the possibility of imposing further measures against the spread of the Omicron variant.
The confirmed cases of the new variant of the coronavirus increased on Sunday by more than 12 thousand, now reaching a total of 37,101. As Deputy Prime Minister Dominique Raab told Sky News this morning, the number of Omicron patients is now 104.
The Daily Telegraph reports that there are three scenarios that have been presented to the Prime Minister. The first is to follow the example of the Scottish Government and address a strict recommendation to citizens to restrict indoor gatherings.
The other option, which is believed to be the basic proposal of his scientific advisors, is to re-enact a regulation restricting indoor gatherings for people who do not live together, to set the opening hours of restaurants until 8 pm and to return the obligation keeping a distance of two meters. The third scenario predicts a universal lockdown.
Mr Johnson was also asked to choose when the new restrictions would take effect, believing he would like to have at least a free Christmas period.
According to the Times, the British Prime Minister is facing reactions from at least ten of his ministers, who believe that important decisions can not be made on the basis of imperfect knowledge of the new variant.
