At least 150 supporters of far-right former President Jair Bolsonaro have been arrested after the invasion and widespread destruction of the three-power headquarters in Brazil on Sunday in the capital Brasilia, media reported.

Footage broadcast by CNN Brasil showed Bolsonaro supporters, many of them wearing the yellow and green jerseys of the national soccer team, marching one behind the other with their hands tied in handrails on the ramp leading to and from the Planalto presidential palace, guarded by policemen.

In other images, a bus full of arrested protesters can be seen leaving, apparently in the direction of a police station.

The police unit responsible for the security of the Senate announced that it had arrested about thirty people inside the chamber, which had been seized earlier by Bolsonaros, as well as the Parliament, the presidential palace and the Supreme Court.

As night fell in the Brazilian capital, law enforcement appeared to be gradually regaining control of the situation, using pressurized water cannons to keep protesters at bay, but dozens of Bolsonaros remained on the ground and confusion continued.
