US: Trump fined $1 million for trying to impeach Clinton

The federal judge ruled that Trump “abused the courts” by attempting to sue “to dishonestly advance a political narrative.”

A US judge fined former US President Donald Trump $1 million for trying to drag Hillary Clinton into a “futile trial”.

Trump accused his opponent of attempting to cheat in the 2016 presidential election.

Federal Judge John Middlebrooks ruled that Trump, who wants to run for the US presidency again, “abused the courts” by attempting to sue “to dishonestly advance a political narrative.”

So he is now asked to pay jointly with one of his lawyers, Alina Habbato, the amount of 1 million dollars.

“This case should never have been brought,” the U.S. district judge wrote.

In the lawsuit filed by the former president last March, he accused Mrs. Clinton, the Democratic National Committee and others of conspiring to “fabricate a false narrative” in the 2016 presidential election that his campaign colluded with Russia to win the race. Trump had sought $70 million in damages.

The lawsuit was dismissed last September, and Trump was fined more than $65,000 in fees and penalties in November after a defendant sought sanctions.

In his ruling, the judge called Trump “the mastermind of the strategic abuse of the judicial process” and said the lawsuit showed “inadequacy as a legal claim” and was intended for “political purpose.”

“No reasonable attorney would have filed it,” the judge wrote in his ruling.

Donald Trump is a “prolific and sophisticated litigant who has repeatedly used the courts to exact revenge on his political opponents,” Judge Middlebrooks wrote in his ruling.

“He is the foreman of a strategic derailment of the judicial process and cannot be seen as a plaintiff blindly following the advice of a lawyer. He was acutely aware of the impact of these actions,” he added.
