The number of Brazilians living abroad reached 4.2 million in 2020, according to Itamaraty – an increase of 122% in eight years. And this movement also interests young people. A study by FGV Social carried out this year showed that almost half of them (47%) would leave the country if they could.
The lack of perspective and concerns caused by the economic crisis, political instability and social problems are cited by Brazilians as reasons to leave the country and become an immigrant in countries like Portugal and the United States.
In this Monday’s (27) episode, Café da Manhã interviews Gabrielle Oliveira, a professor at Harvard University and an immigration researcher, about the reasons that lead so many Brazilians to leave the country – and what Brazil loses with it.
