US, France and Italy send anti-aircraft and longer-range missiles to Ukraine

“The deployment of such a system responds to the request expressed by Oleksii Reznikov, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, to his counterparts in France and Italy,” the statement said.

France, Italy to send medium-range surface-to-air defense system to Ukraine in spring SAMP/T-MAMBA to help that country “defend itself against Russia’s attacks with drones, missiles and fighter jets,” France’s defense ministry said today.

“The sending of such a system responds to the request expressed by Oleksii Reznikovthe Minister of Defense of Ukraine, to his French and Italian counterparts,” the announcement reads.

The US also today announced a new $2.175 billion military aid package, which includes a new, longer-range missile that would potentially allow the Ukrainian armed forces to strike targets that have so far been out of range.

The representative of the Ministry of Defense Patrick Ryder told reporters that as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) Ground Launched Small Diameter Bombs (GLSDB), which have a range of 150 kilometers, will be sent to that country.

This package will also include Mine Resistant Personnel Carriers (MRAPs), Multiple Guided Rocket Launch Systems (GMLRS), spare parts and various types of ammunition.

The US has already sent about $27.2 billion worth of military aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded that country on February 24, 2022.
