The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, exercised his right to vote in the Presidential Elections in Limassol.

Then, in his statements to the journalists, President Anastasiades said that “it is said that today is the celebration of the Republic. I will not disagree at all, but if we want to turn it into a real celebration of democracy, no one should be left indifferent, no one should stay away from this right that the Constitution has given him so that the will works to the fullest extent possible of the people and not the will of only those who participate.

I want to believe that everything and based on the democratic tradition that our people have will develop smoothly and in the evening we will certainly have the first results of the will of the people”.

Asked what his feelings are today, given the end of his ten-year term at the head of the country, the President of the Republic said “nice. They are mixed. On the one hand, satisfaction because after 43 years, I believe that I managed to contribute to the political life of the country, even the minimum, and secondly, feelings that usually possess someone who, by keeping commitments, bringing about constitutional amendments, ends a ten-year presence of the Presidency and 43 years of active involvement in Politics, with an advisory role now. I think it’s time to enjoy everyone you see around me.”

In response to a journalist’s observation that his grandson Antis Loutsios, who accompanied him since he was a small child in all the votes, is now voting, President Anastasiades jokingly said that “my former mascot is now a voter. He will exercise his right in Germasogeia”.

Asked if the election stake is abstention and if the messages have reached the voters to go vote, the President of the Republic said “I want to hope, yes. And what I would like to repeat and overemphasize, is that it should be considered by everyone that it is a right that turns into a duty, especially in the elections of the supreme ruler of the country”.
