The Defense Ministers of Greece and the United Kingdom proceeded to sign the so-called Declaration of Single Vision in the context of today’s visit of Nikos Panagiotopoulos to London and then to Portsmouth, accompanied by his British counterpart Ben Wallace.

The bilateral defense agreement underlines, according to the British Ministry of Defence, the joint determination of the two countries to cooperate in order to strengthen resilience against all security threats and challenges in the Euro-Atlantic region.

For the further development of Greek-British relations, a “roadmap” will be agreed each year that will update the priorities for bilateral defense cooperation.

The two countries “agree to pursue new opportunities for cooperation, such as strengthening the effectiveness and interoperability of their armed forces and improving the capabilities provided to NATO, including high readiness forces such as the Allied Rapid Reaction Force” .

The two countries also agree, building on the successful history of military cooperation, to work together to develop innovative solutions for future military hardware needs, to maximize military interoperability and to reduce procurement and support costs.

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said: “Greece is our long-standing NATO ally and defense partner and I am delighted to welcome Nikos Panagiotopoulos. This new single defense and security agreement will drive greater UK-Greece partnership and military cooperation, helping us to address common security threats and challenges in the Euro-Atlantic area.”

Mr Panagiotopoulos inspected a parade of honor on London’s Horse Guards Parade on Tuesday morning accompanied by Mr Wallace, before proceeding to Portsmouth Naval Base for their talks and tour of the destroyer HMS Diamond.
