Times Square: Gun Free Zone
Times Square is one of the most famous locations in New York. It is a crossroads and a small square in the heart of Manhattan, with a backdrop of giant electronic billboards, illuminated day and night for the 50 million visitors who pass through every year.
Typically, from September 1, 2022, it is prohibited to carry weapons there.
As part of the fight against crime and the proliferation of firearms in New York City, center-right Mayor Eric Adams, a former police officer, ordered the installation of dozens of posters reading “Times Square: Gun Free Zone”. in the area of the square.
After a large increase in gun homicides in 2020 and 2021 in New York City, the number fell in 2022 to 433 in the city of 8.5 million people and one million visitors.
