North Korea: Kim Jong Un Orders Mandatory Name Change – Non-“Patriotic” Banned

by

Henceforth no woman or girl is allowed to have his daughter’s name – All South Korean-like names are also banned

In 2014, the North Korean regime forced hundreds of thousands of citizens who had the same (very common) name as the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, to change it.
Now, Kim has ordered all women in the country who have the same name as his 10-year-old daughter, Ju Ae, to change it.

Yoo Ae is intended to be Kim’s successor and future leader of North Korea and – according to the country’s policy on the matter – as a mark of respect, no common mortal is allowed to share the same name as the supreme ruler.

Recently, the regime also ordered millions of people who did not have “patriotic names” to change them, either themselves or their children.

In previous decades, North Korean citizens were required to bear names in accordance with the ideology of the communist regime – even more… military’ – such as Chung Sim (faith), Chong Il (gun), Pok Il (bomb) or Ui Song (satellite).

In recent years this policy has loosened and people have been giving their children more… generic and lighthearted names like Ri (beloved), So Ra (shell) and Su Mi (super beauty).

Last November, however, Kim Jong Un decided that these names were corrupting the people and resembled those of South Korea (!) and ordered them to be changed.
According to the regime, many of the names that end in soft vowels instead of harder consonants are more like names given to children in South Korea – a fact that may border on treason.
