Faced with anti-monarchist protesters today, King Charles III of Britain during his visit to the city of Milton Keynes, 80 kilometers north of London.

Among the crowd that had gathered to welcome him, some activists held up yellow placards that read “Not my king” and some booed him upon his arrival.

The protest was organized by the group “Republic”, which calls for the abolition of the monarchy and the installation of an elected head of state.

I asked Charles why he was wasting money on his coronation. He did not answer“, wrote the head of the Republic team, Graham Smith, in a post on Twitter.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II after 70 years on the British throne, questions have been raised about the future of the monarchy. The royal family has also come under fresh criticism recently from King Charles’ youngest son Prince Harry and his wife Meghan.

In Milton Keynes, King Charles III ignored the boos and shook hands with several onlookers, some of whom shouted “God save the King(God save the King) trying to suppress the voices of the anti-monarchists.

It was not the first time that King Charles had faced such protests after his mother’s death. In some cases activists threw eggs at him.

A 21-year-old man was fined £100 for throwing an egg at the King in Luton in December. A student is awaiting trial for trying in November in the same way to voice his disapproval of Charles’ visit to York, in north-east England.
