The city of New Orleans is the perfect place to celebrate Mardi Gras, the last chance for Halloween revelry before Lent begins on the first Wednesday of Lent.

The day before Mardi Gras is known as Lundi Gras, and on Monday night, the “crew of Orpheus” parades through the streets playing frantic jazz music on his chariot.

During yesterday’s parade, a gunman opened fire for an unknown reason into the crowd, killing one person and injuring four others.

The authorities arrested the perpetrator and asked that this isolated event not affect today’s fiestas.

The carnival events will culminate today with the great parade of floats and the King of the Carnival.
