Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met this afternoon in Kiev with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. Speaking to reporters after their talks concluded, Meloni said that “Italy provides full support to Ukraine” and that “he is not going to hesitate.”

“Italy will offer all possible support to create favorable conditions for conducting negotiations, but until then it will continue to provide all kinds of military, economic and social support,” added the head of the Italian government.

He made it clear, however, that “at this stage no military aircraft will be delivered to Ukraine” and that “this is a decision that must be taken together with the other partners”.

At the same time, he underlined that it has been proven that the law of the strongest cannot prevail and that Italy is making efforts with the aim of holding an international conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine, which could be held in April.

“Nothing should be decided without Ukraine – on this we must all agree – and for this reason it is of key importance that the initiative be started by President Zelensky”, concluded Georgia Meloni.

For his part, the Ukrainian president thanked Meloni for the visit and her attitude, and referring to recent statements by Silvio Berusconi, who emphasized that “if he were prime minister, he would not meet him”, he underlined: “no one has bombed his home with missiles, as do the Russians, his fraternal friends. The tanks never reached his garden, no one ever killed his relatives. His wife never went out to look for food, and no one was forced, at three in the morning, to pack up and run away. All this, thanks to the brotherly love of Russia.”

The head of the Italian government replied that she does not agree with this position and reminded that “in the Parliament of Rome, the governing faction has always voted in a solid way”, because “the opinions expressed are one thing and the decisions taken are another”.
