At least three powerful explosions were heard in the area of ​​Tyre, a major port in southern Lebanon, in the early hours of this morning, AFP journalists found, while Israel announced that it had carried out strikes in retaliation for more than thirty rockets fired at its territory by Lebanon.

A resident of the Palestinian refugee camp in Rashdiya, very close to Tyre, Abu Ahmad, told AFP that he “heard explosions”, at least two of which took place “close to the camp”.

For its part, Israel’s army announced almost simultaneously that it had hit targets, positions it said belonged to the Islamist organization Hamas, in southern Lebanon, also reporting that it had escalated its strikes in the Gaza Strip.

He emphasized that he “will not allow the terrorist organization Hamas to operate from the territory of Lebanon”, declaring that he “holds the Lebanese state responsible” for any attack against Israeli territory “from its territory”.
