The 14 passengers on board a twin-engine helicopter operated by Guatemala’s TAG Airlines lost part of its landing gear as it was about to land in northern Guatemala, causing it to stop on a runway.

Specifically, the aircraft was flying from Cancun to Flores. While rushing to the landing phase at the Mundo Maya International Airport, in the department of Petén, it suddenly lost part of its landing gear.

“At the time of the landing maneuver, the aircraft lost part of its landing gear and landed on the side of the runway,” explained Ruben Teguez, a spokesman for the Guatemalan armed forces.

The operator of the aircraft – a SAAB – operating the flight spoke of an “incident at the time of landing”, according to TAG.

Fortunately, there were no injuries from this uneven landing

Nevertheless “thanks to the experience and skill of the pilots, the aircraft was able to stop on a runway at the side of the runway”, the company added in a statement. “All 14 passengers and 3 crew members got out safe and sound,” he emphasized.

A photo uploaded to its website by the Guatemalan daily Prensa Libre shows the aircraft parked in an area of the airport with low vegetation, with military personnel and some civilians around it.
