In India, a diamond company has their hands on a jewel that is rarer than… rare – a large, hollow diamond, with another, smaller diamond inside.

Named “Beating Heart,” the piece of jewelry consists of a single piece of diamond with a smaller free-moving piece trapped inside, according to the Times of India.

The stone was first found in the rough last October by the diamond manufacturer operating out of Surat and Mumbai and its authenticity was confirmed by further analysis using optical and electron microscopes.

The rare diamond has “etching features” visible on the smaller diamond in the inner cavity as well, it was found.
Experts explained that the cavity may have formed due to the preferential etching of a poor quality fibrous diamond interlayer.

The 800-million-year-old ‘two-in-one’ jewel is said to be priceless and the only such discovery in the world.
The so-called “Matryoshka” diamond resembles traditional Russian nesting dolls (babushka).
Inside, the tiny diamond set in its own sealed air space has an estimated weight of 0.02 carats and dimensions of 1.9×2.1×0.6mm.
