Sweden: A teenager was arrested after stabbing two people at school

by

A teenager, born in 2005, was arrested today in southern Sweden after seriously injuring a student and a teacher with a knife, police said.

Swedish media have linked the suspect in the attack to a school in Kristianstad with the perpetrator of a similar attack in August.

“He entered our classroom holding a loudspeaker from which music was heard and wearing a black mask for the coronavirus. “At first we thought it was a hoax,” an unnamed student told Dagens Nyheter.

The perpetrator then turned to the teacher and started “stabbing” him, the witness described, adding that the students then started running to leave the building.

After being informed that at least one man had been injured with a knife, the police soon arrested the suspect in a “relatively little spectacular” manner, the chief of Local Police Anders Forland said to journalists.

A 55-year-old teacher and a 16-year-old student were injured in the attack.

The teacher’s injuries are “minor”, but the student’s are “serious”, according to a press release issued by the regional health authority.

The suspect is being held for “attempted murder”, police said.

For its part, TV4 reported that the case was linked to a similar attack that took place in August in the town of Eslov, 50 kilometers southwest of Kristianstad, when a student attacked a 45-year-old school worker.

According to TV4, Eslov’s perpetrator and Kristianstad’s suspect “knew each other, had contacted the internet and had both expressed interest in the school attacks”.
