Coronavirus – France: Authorities consider giving fourth dose

by

French authorities are considering giving a fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine to the elderly, even if it is “premature” at the moment, the health ministry said on Tuesday.

“In other European countries they are all at about the same stage in these matters, waiting for the position of the scientific authorities,” the health ministry said in a statement.

At the forefront of the agenda, Israel began giving a fourth dose on January 3 to people aged 60 and over amid an outbreak of Omicron-related infections, the highly contagious variant of the new coronavirus.

“The administration of the fourth installment is still under discussion, it is still too early to comment on the issue. We will do what the scientific authorities tell us “, continued the ministry, which will wait in particular for the opinion of the COSV special commission for vaccination strategy and the Supreme Authority for Health (HAS).

In France, in the face of declining efficacy vaccines over time, a booster dose (usually a third dose) was given in September to people over 65 and those with comorbidities. It then gradually expanded to age groups over 18 years.
