Russian investigators said today that the suspect arrested after the blast that seriously injured Russian nationalist writer Zakhar Prilepin and killed his driver “acted on instructions” from Ukrainian agents.

“Investigators of the Investigative Committee are looking into the involvement of Alexander Permyakov in the attempted murder of Zakhar Prilepin,” the commission said, adding that “during the interrogation, the suspect stated that he acted on the instructions of the Ukrainian special services.”

For its part, Ukraine’s security service SBU told Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform today that it cannot confirm or deny its involvement in the bombing that injured the Russian writer or other attacks.

“Officially, we cannot confirm or deny the SBU’s involvement in this or other explosions that happen to the occupation forces or their henchmen,” Ukrinform reported, citing a statement from the security service.
