The coronation ceremony of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey made history as Charles was the first monarch to be crowned in Britain in 70 years.

The BBC has collected the highlights of the brilliant religious ceremony, with centuries of symbolism and tradition, in a concise 4-minute video.

The historic ceremony with traditions lost in the depths of the centuries was watched, according to estimates, by more than 300,000,000 television viewers around the world.

The ritual began at 12:20 Greek time with the so-called “Procession of the King” to Westminster Abbey.

At 1.00 o’clock the religious ceremony began, officiated by the prelate of the Anglican Church Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, which lasted two hours.

In it the new king was first introduced to the congregation and then took an oath to respect the law and protect the Anglican Church. He was then anointed and finally crowned with the Crown of St. Edward which dates from 1661 and weighs 2.21 kilograms.

The completion of the ceremony was followed by the so-called “Coronation Procession” where the royal couple returned to Buckingham Palace.

There, King Charles and Queen Camilla appeared on the Palace balcony to greet the crowd that had gathered outside the palaces. They were joined by senior members of the royal family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children. Absent was Prince Harry, who, although he attended the coronation at Westminster Abbey, was not invited to appear on the balcony as he is no longer a working member of the royal family.
