Formerly of Der Spiegel is Steffen Klussmann, the editor-in-chief of the German magazine.

Klusman was fired due to a number of factors including the fake news case with the little dead girl on an islet of Evros in the summer of 2022.

According to FAZ, Klusman was in an “ongoing confrontation” with one of the magazine’s three shareholders, who were looking for an excuse to oust him.

As the publication states, among the factors of Klusman’s dismissal was the case of “little Maria”: the “failure with the story of the girl from Syria, who allegedly died on the Greek-Turkish border, which in all probability did not exist” .

Dirk Kurbjuweit takes over as editor-in-chief.
