The Asiana Airlines passenger who opened the plane’s mid-flight emergency exit minutes before it landed in Daegu, South Korea, told police he did so because he felt “uncomfortable,” Yonhap news agency reported.

The 30-year-old told police he opened the door because he “wanted to get off the plane quickly,” according to Yonhap, which cited the Daegu Dongbu Police Department. He also told police he was stressed as he had recently lost his job.

Reuters has so far been unable to contact the police department.

The man opened the emergency exit when the plane was about 213 meters above the ground, causing the passengers to panic.

Nine passengers were taken to hospital with breathing problems. Everyone was released after about two hours, according to a fire official.

Police plan to arrest the man after investigations are completed, according to Yonhap.

Jin Seong-hyun, a former cabin safety official at Korean Air, said that as far as he knows this has never happened before, but added that passengers have opened emergency exits without permission while the plane is on the ground.
