Five police officers were arrested by their colleagues in Verona, accused of beating and torturing at least seven civilians. The arrest was immediately turned into house arrest and according to the competent prosecutor, the defendants (an inspector and four police officers) “instead of preventing and preventing crimes, allegedly committed them themselves.”

According to Italian media, the five law enforcement officers slapped, groped and “blinded” with pepper spray citizens who had been arrested and had to be interrogated. The prosecutor typically mentions that in one of the cases the defendants “allegedly forced a citizen to urinate inside the office of the department and then fall on the floor to clean it”.

In another case, one of the five police officers “slapped an interrogator so hard that the man in question lost consciousness for several minutes.”

According to the director of the Verona police, 23 other colleagues of the defendants – even if they did not participate in the torture – may have covered up or not reported these behaviors with their attitude.

The investigation that led to today’s arrests lasted about eight months.
