Repatriation flights of tourists visiting Rhodes are underway, according to foreign travel agencies, as reported by Reuters.

As the publication states, Rhodes and Corfu are among the top destinations in Greece for tourists mainly from Britain and Germany.

The tourists spent the night on the airport floorawaiting repatriation flights, the first of which came during the night.

The TUI company for the United Kingdom and Ireland stated that so far has organized three flights of passengers back to Britain from Rhodes and plans to bring them all back as soon as possible.

Travel companies Jet2, TUI and Corendon have canceled flights to Rhodes. Britain’s easyJet ( EZJ.L ) said it would operate two return flights on Monday from Rhodes to London’s Gatwick Airport, in addition to the nine flights already operating from the island to Gatwick. The airline said it would add another repatriation flight on Tuesday.

Ryanair ( RYA.I ) said its flights to and from Rhodes were operating as normal. Chief Financial Officer Neil Sorahan said the airline was monitoring the situation on Monday. “It is not necessary at this time to operate more flights, we let people book earlier flights””

Reuters reports that an evacuation by sea is underway in Corfu, where around 59 people were evacuated from a beach on Sunday. Footage from the island showed the skyline ablaze with fires in a mountainous area. In Rhodes, some holidaymakers said they walked for miles in the heat to reach safety.
