The Ministry of Defense of Russia announced that it destroyed in the Black Sea on the night of Friday to Saturday three Ukrainian naval drones that were sailing to hit, according to it, the Crimean bridge.

“On September 2, at about 02:20 [σ.σ. τοπική ώρα και ώρα Ελλάδας]the third Ukrainian unmanned semi-submersible vessel, sent by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge, was destroyed in the Black Sea,” the ministry said via Telegram.

On August 12, it was announced that two Ukrainian missile attacks against the strategically important bridge in the Kerch Strait had been repelled.

The high-cost bridge, built on the orders of Vladimir Putin after Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula in 2014, has repeatedly been the target of Ukrainian attacks.

A previous attack in July caused extensive damage to the road section of the infrastructure, which Kiev says is used to transport military equipment to Russian forces fighting on Ukrainian territory. Two civilians – a couple – were killed and a child, their daughter, was injured.

The approximately 18-kilometer-long concrete bridge, which President Putin personally inaugurated in 2018, consists of two parallel structures, one of which carries cars and the other trains.

Crimea is often attacked by the Ukrainian army.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry announced earlier that Russian air defense systems shot down a Ukrainian kamikaze drone in the southern Belgorod region late last night.

The district governor of the region referred to the downing of “two” drones and added that according to the first information there are no casualties or material damage on the ground.
