London, Thanasis Gavos,

The British government has decided to coordinate the departure of UK nationals from Israel by commercial flights.

As Foreign Secretary James Cleverley announced, the Foreign Office will arrange for repatriation flights to return to the UK for those Britons who wish to leave Israel.

The first flight will even depart from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport on Thursday.

Priority will be given to vulnerable citizens with British citizenship. British family dependents and dual British and other nationals will also be allowed on the flights.

These flights will also carry family members of British diplomats serving in Israel.

These are purely commercial and not government flights, with the ticket costing 300 pounds to cover only the cost of making the flight.

Those interested should wait for the consular authorities to contact them and not go to the airport themselves.

The Foreign Office has also sent a Rapid Deployment Team to Israel, like the one coordinating the evacuation of British politicians from Khartoum.

The number of flights operated will depend on the security conditions on the ground.
