The Kremlin said today that it agrees with US President Joe Biden on the need to build a “new world order”, but disagrees that the US is capable of building it.

In a conference call with journalists, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the US is talking about an “American-centric” world orderwhich will not exist in the future.

These statements are typical of a competition taking place against the background of the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, with Russia trying to persuade developing countries to join it in building a new world, free from US “hegemony”.

In a speech on Friday, Biden said the order that worked well for 50 years after World War II has “kind of faded” and a new one is needed. He said that Americans “have an opportunity to do things, if we are bold enough and confident enough, to unite the world in ways that have never been done before”.

Peskov said Moscow is one of the rare times it agrees with Biden on the need for a new order. He said, however, that Russia disagrees with Biden about the US’s ability to build such a system.

“On this part we disagree because the US … regardless of the world order they are talking about, they mean a US-centric world order, that is, a world that revolves around the US. Things will no longer be like this.”
