In particular, 81 Gazans with serious injuries will enter Egypt to receive treatment, the General Authority for Borders and Crossings in Gaza announced
The Rafah border crossing will be opened on Wednesday for a number of wounded Palestinians to complete their treatment in Egyptian hospitals, Reuters reported, citing Egyptian sources and a Palestinian official.
The news was also broadcast by the Egyptian television network Al-Cairo.
In particular, 81 Gazans with serious injuries will enter Egypt to receive treatment, the General Authority for Transit and Borders in Gaza announced.
National Security Council Chairman Jachi Hanegbi said earlier today that Israel hopes Cairo will open its borders to allow the wounded to be treated at the Rafah hospital along with hospitals that may be set up on the Egyptian side of the border.
“Medical teams will be present tomorrow at the crossing to examine the incidents that are coming [από τη Γάζα] as soon as they arrive… and determine the hospitals to which they will be sent,” a medical official in the Egyptian city of El Ares told AFP.
A Palestinian official told the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, however, that the opening of the crossing has not received final approval. But he did not rule out that it will actually open.
US State Department spokesman Matt Miller said on Tuesday that he had no announcement to make regarding the opening of the crossing to civilians, but noted that “we’ve made good progress, even in the last few hours.”
Miller said the department is working hard on the matter, with Ambassador David Satterfield working on the scene.
