More than 1,100 clients of a dental practice in Cherbourg, western France, are being asked to be tested for hepatitis B and C as well as HIV after “serious omissions” authorities found during an inspection of the practice.

During an inspection of the dental office in question in Cherbourg, the Regional Health Service of Normandy (ARS) recorded “a lot serious omissions that endanger the safety of staff and the quality and safety of care”.

ARS does not specify the nature of these “omissions”but according to the newspaper Presse de la Manche, o equipment used in the dental office during treatment it was not as it should be sterile.

“In application of the precautionary principle and based on an assessment of the resulting infectious risks”, ARS requested that “the patientsdue to the low risk of transmission of its viruses hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV) and HIV“, reports the Service.

This measure concerns “all patients who have visited the clinic since its opening in January 2023”, estimated at 1,145.

“Given the alarming nature of the situation”, ARS suspended the dentist “for a maximum period of 5 months”.
