The meeting that the Prime Minister of Qatar had on Monday in Warsaw with the heads of the Israeli Mossad and the CIA was “positive” but there are no expectations for an imminent agreement for the release of hostages held by Hamas, according to a source briefed on those contacts.
THE Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, his prime minister and foreign minister Qatar, The Mossad director David Barnea and CIA Director Bill Burns met in the Polish capital to discuss a possible new deal to release the hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinians from Israeli prisons and, at the same time, a humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
“The talks have been positive, with negotiators examining and discussing various proposals in an effort to make progress in the negotiations. However, an agreement is not immediately expected,” said the source.
The Israeli prime minister’s office declined to comment. There is also no announcement from the CIA.
Qatar says it is working to restore a ceasefire agreement that expired late last month as well as to end the war in Gaza. Qatar and Egypt had brokered a week-long truce, during which Hamas released more than 100 hostages, women, children and foreigners, in exchange for the release of 240 Palestinian women and teenagers from Israeli prisons.
