Anthony Blinken holds talks in UAE and Saudi Arabia before heading to Israel
The United States and its allies Group of 7 (G7) are looking for a quick exit from the war phase of the conflict in Gaza, Italy’s foreign minister said today Antonio Tajaniwhile his US, German and European Union counterparts are touring the Middle East region.
Anthony Blinken holds talks at United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia today, before heading to Israel, with the goal of launching the coordinated peace efforts necessary to avoid a wider conflagration.
The German Foreign Minister Analena Burbok is currently in Israel and the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, is in Lebanon.
“The G7 countries are working with the Israeli government to find a quick exit from the military phase,” the Italian foreign minister said as Italy held its one-year presidency of the Group of 7.
Analena Burbock said Israel has an obligation to protect West Bank Palestinians, after Anthony Blinken sounded the alarm yesterday from the Doha.
“It’s a conflict that can metastasize,” said Anthony Blinken.
Israel has taken a more focused approach to the war in Gaza ahead of Anthony Blinken’s visit, as the Palestinian Authority reports 249 deaths in the past 24 hours.
Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallad said his country is determined both to end Hamas’ rule of the Gaza Strip and prevent an escalation by Hezbollah. “We are fighting an axis, not a single enemy,” Gallant told the Wall Street Journal. “Iran is building military power around Israel to use it.”
