On the occasion of the AfD-neo-Nazi meeting on mass deportations of immigrants, there was a debate in Parliament yesterday about the role of the extreme right in Germany. Catapult the remaining parties
The recent secret meeting of members of the Alternative for Germany and neo-Nazis in Potsdam on the subject of mass deportations of immigrants and Germans with an immigrant background has alarmed German society. Thousands of people have been taking to the streets of various German cities for days against the Alternative for Germany and the meeting which the demonstrators claim refers to the darkest pages of German history of the 20th century.
On the occasion of the Potsdam meeting, which was revealed by the journalistic network Correktiv, a debate was held yesterday in the federal parliament in Berlin in which all parties condemned the positions of the Alternative for Germany while warning of the dangers arising from the extreme party.
The chairman of the German Social Democrats, Lars Klingbeil, spoke for “wolf in sheep’s clothing,” addressing AfD co-chair Alice Weidelwhile Green Parliamentary Group leader Britta Hazelman spoke for “enemies of democracy”.
AfD: “We defend the Constitution”
For her part, Interior Minister Nancy Feser promised from the floor of parliamentstrict response from the authorities against far-right extremists and their ideology. “What we are experiencing does not ignore history but consciously embraces Nazi ideologies,” the minister underlined: “Whoever discusses scenarios for mass deportations is linked to the racist ideology of the Nazis, which was the harbinger of the Wannsee conference and the Holocaust. None of the participants in Potsdam can plead ignorance in retrospect.”
Responding on behalf of the Alternative for Germany, MP Bird Baumann rejected the accusations of the other parties, speaking of “defamation of the AfD”. He then warned of “millions of culturally alien asylum seekers” pouring into Germany: “The deportations we are discussing are not against the law and the Constitution. It’s just the opposite. It is about the application of the law and the Constitution. We defend the Constitution and you are its opponents”.
In the coming days the demonstrations against the Alternative for Germany will continue. Demonstrations are planned for the weekend in Stuttgart, Halle, Erfurt, Dortmund and Karlsruhe, among others.
