The decision taken today by the International Court of Justice in The Hague on Gaza “reinforces the determination” of France to work for a ceasefire, according to the statement issued by the French Foreign Ministry, which states that for the crime of genocide, for which some countries accuse Israel of, the intent should be “proved”.

In its decision, the ICC calls on Israel to “take all possible measures” to prevent a genocide in Gaza, without however answering whether or not that country is committing such a crime against the Palestinians.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalls that it is “important” that Israel’s “strict adherence to international humanitarian law” is “important” and welcomes the fact that the ICC, “like France”, calls for the immediate and unconditional release” of the hostages held in Gaza. Paris also reiterates that it is working “to achieve a ceasefire”.

Couple of minutes ago, the European Union commented that he hopes the ICC ruling, which also calls on Israel to allow humanitarian aid access to Gaza, is “fully and immediately” implemented.
