“That’s why, in the future, the word ‘independent’ will always appear next to the word Ukraine,” added the Ukrainian president.
“We will win,” said the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky on the second anniversary of the Russian invasion, in a video released today by the presidency.
“We are fighting for it. For 730 days of our lives. And we will win, the best day of our lives”he said from Gostomel military airfield, near Kiev and the scene of a major battle with the Russians in the early days of the invasion.
“That’s why, in the future, the word ‘independent’ will always appear next to the word Ukraine,” added the Ukrainian president.
Dear great people of a great country, I am immensely proud of each of you. I admire each one of you. I believe in each one of you. Any normal person wants the war to end. But none of us will allow Ukraine to end.

The Ukrainian president was accompanied by Western leaders who were there for the occasion, notably Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who chairs the G7, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“We believe that Ukraine is also fighting for our own freedom but also for our national interest,” Meloni, who is set to sign a bilateral security agreement with the Ukrainian president, told reporters.
After London in January, Kiev signed such a text, especially with Germany and France.
In particular, these security agreements may concern the provision of military equipment, interoperable with that of NATO, the training of Ukrainian forces and the strengthening of Ukraine’s defense industry.
According to the Italian news agency AGI, Meloni and Zelensky will open a meeting of the G7 (United States, Japan, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Canada) at 4:00 p.m. GMT from the Hagia Sophia Cathedral, a famous monument of the center of Kyiv.
