Sunak in his farewell speech outside Danung Street said that as prime minister he worked hard but the people gave a clear mandate for a change of government, recognizing that his party had failed.
“I have heard your anger and frustration and I take responsibility for this failure,” he said, apologizing to Conservative candidates and campaign managers who “worked tirelessly”.
In his last speech as prime minister, shortly before submitting his resignation to King Charles, Sunak announced his resignation from the leadership of the Conservative Party, but this will take effect later, when the party has the process of nominating his successor ready. .
