Political forces that recognize democratic institutions, the rule of law, parliamentarism, European orientation and the defense of French independence, to engage in an honest dialogue to build a majority, says Macron
President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday called on France’s main political forces to form a coalition with a “solid” majority after Sunday’s election.
Among other things, the French president states in a letter published in several regional newspapers that at the end of this process he will appoint a prime minister.
In urging coalition building, Macron used the term “Democratic Bloc” with which he possibly refers to the dominant parties and not the extreme right and the extreme left.
In particular, Mr Emmanuel Macron states in his letter “nobody won. No political force obtains a sufficient majority by itself, and the alliances or coalitions resulting from these elections are all in the minority.’
“I ask all political forces that recognize democratic institutions, the rule of law, parliamentarism, European orientation and the defense of French independence, to participate in an honest dialogue to build a stable majority, necessarily pluralistic, for the country” , he continues and adds that this process “presupposes giving political forces some time to build these compromises” before appointing a new prime minister.
“Until then, the current government will continue to exercise its responsibilities and be responsible for current affairs,” the French president also said in the letter, without however disclosing whether he intends to accept Gabriel Attal’s resignation.
