Mountaineers’ first aid services are working tirelessly to rescue thirty-two-year-old Italian Ottavia Piana, who is inside the cave “Ambiso Bueno Forteno”, in the wider area of the city of Bergamo.

Last Saturday, Piana fell from a height of five meters while already inside the cave and injured her knee, face and ribs. Rescuers today managed to reach her and then place her on a stretcher, which has been attached with steel wire. It is estimated, however, that in order to complete the entire rescue operation, approximately another forty-eight hours will be needed.

The speleologist communicates with the surrounding environment but is psychologically depressed. Two years ago, he was injured again in the same cave and a similar operation had to be organized so that he could be transferred to the hospital, under safe conditions.

Experts explained that with her expeditions, Ottavia Piana is contributing to the mapping of the cave “Ambiso Bueno Forteno”, but she explained that she “never again in her life means to set foot inside a cave”.
