Despite significant losses, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) emerges as the winner of the state elections in Hamburg, with the second being the Christian Democratic Party (CDU) and the Greens. The renewal of the tenure of the red-green government coalition with the governor/mayor again Peter Chester is considered the most likely scenario, although the CDU declares his readiness to join the SPD.
According to the first official results, the SPD secures 33.7% (-5.5 of the previous 2020 elections), while CDU 19.8% (+8.6) and Greens Greens 18.3% (-5.9).
The fourth party is the left with 11.1% (+2) and in fifth place is the alternative to Germany (AfD) with 7.7% (+2.4).
“Hamburg remains in good hands,” Chancellor Olf Saltz said, expressing his congratulations to the commander/mayor of the Hansaic city/state Peter Chester on the SPD victory. “It is good that you will be able to continue your work for the good of Hamburg,” Mr Saltz, who has also served as mayor of Hamburg from 2011 to 2018, wrote in a post on the “X” platform.
“We must remind ourselves that SPD in Germany can always win elections. This is an important message from Hamburg to the rest of the country, “Mr Chester said. Election winners also include the Left and AfD, while the Liberals (FDP), after failing to secure the Bundestag, stayed outside the State House in Hamburg, with 2.3% (-2.7).
