Western official cited by the BBC confirmed information about the arrest of a Russian lieutenant colonel by Ukrainian forces.

He noted that the Ukrainians have carried out “limited counterattacks” destroying Russian equipment and capturing personnel.

“There was a large amount of electronics in the area where he was arrested (the lieutenant colonel) military equipment. “It is not clear if he was personally involved with him, but it is something we are investigating at the moment,” the official said.

Overall, he said, they are believed to have been killed six Russian generals, with a senior lieutenant general of the 8th Mixed Army. All six will have been replaced, the western official added.

He then characterized “impressive” that fighting is still going on at Hostomel Airport, despite being a target of the Russians since the first day of the invasion.

He also said he expected Russian forces to try to advance to Kyiv carrying more artillery within range. But Ukrainian forces are “doing well,” he said, recapturing small Russian-occupied towns.

However, in the coming days, the western official is waiting greater emphasis of Russian forces in movements in east of Ukraine, as it failed to achieve the plan by simultaneously invading on three axes.

One concern, however, is that if Russian forces emerge victorious they could encircle the Ukrainian army in the eastern country.

“Ukrainian forces there are strong, but they have a potential challenge to face with (Russian) forces approaching them from three directions. “This is probably the area we are most concerned about,” the Western official told the BBC.
