United States Vice President Jay Di Vance said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump believes that the NATO member states target for defense spending should increase to 5% of GDP, from the existing 2%.

At the same time, Vans stressed that Washington is in line with the idea of ​​Europe to play a bigger role in the defense of Epirus.

The US Vice -President also stressed that Washington wants to see Europe become more self -sufficient in defense.

Speaking at an event organized by the Munich Security Conference in Washington, Vance welcomed Europe’s moves to strengthen its own defense, but stressed that the US defense industries should be able to participate more actively in these efforts.

Concerning the US-EU trade relationship, Jay Di Vance noted that discussions between the two commercial partners are underway, stressing that Washington is pressing on the European Union to reduce duties and regulatory barriers, with the aim of improving trade.

Concerning Iran’s defense program, the US Vice President described the US talks with Tehran on Wednesday and said there was room for an agreement that will reintroduce Iran to the global economy, preventing it.

Vance added that Donald Trump hates nuclear spread and would be open to sitting on the table with Russia and China in the coming years to discuss the reduction of the number of nuclear weapons in the world.

At the same time, Jay Di Vance said there was no conversation between the US and China on a strategic agreement on Taiwan.

During his speech he added that the Trump government is working to redefine global trade for the benefit of US workers and industries. This, he said, means that China should take steps to strengthen domestic demand.

Vance noted that the redefinition process also includes the achievement of more trade agreements, “both with some of our friends in Europe and with some of the most opposing states”, adding that the goal is to maintain “at least one open dialogue with the People’s Republic of China”.
