Khamenei: Negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program are well under way

by

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei He said today that negotiations on the revival of the Iran nuclear deal, reached in 2015 between Tehran and the six major powers, were progressing well, and called on negotiators to resist the pressure.

“In the negotiations, the work is going well”said Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in front of the Iranian leadership, among them President Ebrahim Raisi.

“Keep working without waiting for the results of the negotiations, whether they are positive or negative”the supreme leader added, according to excerpts from his speech published on his website.

Iran has been in direct talks for a year with France, Germany, Britain, Russia and China and indirect negotiations with the US in Vienna on the revival of the agreement, formally known as the Joint Integrated Action Plan (JCPOA).

“Our negotiating team has so far resisted the other side’s excessive demands and will continue to do so.”said Ayatollah Khamenei.

“The other side is the one that broke its promise (leaving the agreement) and reached a dead end”said without specifying.

On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian blames US that they seek to “impose new conditions” during the negotiations in Vienna, without further clarification.

And on Monday, Tehran expressed doubts about Washington’s “willingness” to reach an agreement, citing divergences that continue to exist in the negotiations. However, these seem to have progressed in recent weeks, with some negotiators reaching the point of announcing an impending agreement.

But there are still differences, mainly over the removal of the Revolutionary Guards (Iran’s ideological army) from Washington’s blacklist of “foreign terrorist organizations”, which included Donald Trump.
