Partygate: Vote on whether Johnson should be referred for misleading House of Commons

by

London, Thanasis Gavos

British lawmakers will discuss and vote on Thursday on a proposal by Labor leader Sir Kir Starmer for reference by Boris Johnson to the parliamentary immunity committee to examine whether he had misled the body with regard to partygate.

The voting was announced by its President House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle, at whose discretion such parliamentary proceedings are at stake.

However, the government is expected to raise the issue of party discipline in order to bind the Conservative MPs, who with the vast majority they have are expected to vote against the resignation of the British Prime Minister.

The opposition accuses Boris Johnson of that deliberately and repeatedly assured untrue MPs how the alleged gatherings as a party on Downing Street amid a lockdown did not constitute a breach of the pandemic rules.

Mr. Johnson paid last week a fine of λι 50 imposed on him by the Metropolitan Police for his presence at a surprise mini-party for his birthday in the cabinet room in June 2020.

The announcement of the vote by Sir Lindsay came just hours before Mr Johnson made the statement to lawmakers apologizing for the partygate and will inform about developments in Ukraine.
