Her warning Russia that stops them gas supplies to Bulgariabecause her request to change the method of payment is not satisfied, it is serious violation of the current contract and is equivalent to blackmail, said today Bulgarian Prime Minister Kirill Petkov.
Petkov said that Bulgaria is currently reviewing all its contracts with Gazpromincluding the transit of Russian gas to Serbia and Hungary, because “unilateral blackmail is unacceptable.”
Petkov also stated that he had spoken to her President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyenwhich assured him that the 27-member coalition will give a common answer in this action of Russia. The Russian giant energy company Gazprom announced that it stopped supplying gas to Bulgaria and Poland because they did not pay in rubles.
Earlier today o Bulgarian Minister of Energy Alexander Nikolov had told reporters that Bulgaria had paid for Russian gas deliveries for April and that suspending them would be a breach of the existing contract with Gazprom.
Sofia will soon know if the flow of gas it receives through TurkeyNikolov said after Gazpromgaz announced to the Bulgarian state gas company Bulgargaz that it will stop supplies from today.
The minister said that Bulgaria, a member of the EU and NATO, will comply with the directive of the European Commission who called the countries not to pay in rubles for Russian gas, something that Russian President Vladimir Putin demands.
“As all trade and legal obligations are met, it is clear that gas is currently being used more as a political and economic weapon in the current war.” said Nikolov.
The Balkan country covers more than 90% of its needs on gas with supplies from Russia under a long-term contract that will expire at the end of the year. Nikolov said gas deliveries to consumers were still guaranteed for at least a month.
Bulgaria is also transporting Russian gas through an extension of the pipeline Turk Stream to neighboring Serbia and from there to Hungary. Nikolov said Sofia would review all of its existing contracts with Gazprom.
“Bulgaria is a loyal partner of all neighboring countries. Bulgaria is not Russia. “When we can, we help all our neighbors,” he said.
