US authorities have spoken of a “hate crime” and an act of “violent extremism with racist motives”.
They also reported that the perpetrator, who was armed with an assault rifle and appeared to have acted alone, drove “many hours” from his home to Buffalo where he launched the attack, which he broadcast online via a camera he carried on him. Eleven of the thirteen people he shot were African-Americans, according to police officials.
