Despite all the internal and external difficulties of the economy, agribusiness continues with record numbers.
Exports reached US$ 140 billion in the last 12 months, and the value of foreign sales in the sector will reach, for the first time, US$ 1 trillion in the accumulated of ten years.
The evolution of revenues is due to the strong external demand for agricultural products and the rise in prices in recent months. As of the end of July, international negotiations begin to be carried out at lower levels.
The rise in prices also affected inputs, a sector on which the country is heavily dependent. The correction in this sector was higher than that of commodities and, as a result, the evolution of imports occurred at a greater intensity than that of exports.
The accumulated revenue from exports in the last 12 months is 25% higher than in the same previous period. Imports, which totaled US$ 51 billion, were 65% higher than in the same previous period.
This year, spending on fertilizers reached US$ 16 billion, and on pesticides, US$ 3.35 billion, according to data from Secex (Secretariat of Foreign Trade), updated this Wednesday (3).
Brazilian exports from January to July already reach US$ 93.34 billion, and the country’s main partner is China.
The Asian country imported agribusiness products worth US$ 33 billion in the period. The United States follows with US$ 5.7 billion.
The Asian presence in the Brazilian market is growing. In addition to the weight of China, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan make up the leaders of that region in imports of Brazilian products.
Two items stand out in national exports: soy and meat, both destined to supply China’s demand.
Foreign sales of soybeans from Brazil are at a slower pace this year, and have fallen by 9%. Revenues, however, due to the acceleration of international prices, increased by 23%.
In the case of meat, the volume was 4.2 million tons in the first seven months of the year, with no major change compared to the same period in 2021. Revenues, however, rose to US$ 10.2 billion, with 33% increase.
Coffee, also due to the acceleration of prices, gained prominence this year. It occupies the third position, with sales of US$ 5.2 billion. External prices increased by 58% in the year, which ensured good revenues for exporters.
Arbitration Bill 3,293/2021, which aims to amend the Arbitration Law, contains a series of items that are out of step with the arbitration legal system, representing a real harm to the Brazilian economy and, in particular, to agribusiness, if be approved.
Arbitration 2 The evaluation is by the Brazilian Arbitration Committee. In a note, the committee states that arbitration has emerged as a promising remedy in the field of dispute resolution in the agribusiness sector, such as the purchase and sale of commodities, lease agreements, rural financing, purchase and sale of inputs and others.
perverse effect The committee lists, among the points that have a perverse effect on the agro-industrial market, restrictions on the freedom of the parties, legal uncertainty in the business environment, “minimal doubt” about impartiality and the limitation of the number of processes in which the same professional can act. .
perverse effect 2 For the committee, the proposals, if implemented, will cause a drop in foreign investments, due to the loss of arbitration, reduction of cases, migration of Brazilian arbitrations to other countries and the elimination of the country as a possible venue for international arbitrations.
