As a teenager, Sandy experienced the Netflix phenomenon firsthand through her role in the second season of Stranger Things, the series in which she plays Max Mayfield. The actress had to convince the Duffer brothers, the show’s creators and directors, to let her audition for the role because they thought she was too old for the character. At 14, she got the role, which would change her life. This was in 2017. Her recognition skyrocketed overnight, as evidenced by her Instagram follower count, an unofficial barometer of rising star popularity. He now has over 25 million followers.

“Things around me started to change, but I never changed. One day I was flying to Los Angeles for the Golden Globes and the next day I was coming home with my mom telling me to take the trash out,” she explained to British magazine “Glamour” in a recent interview.

Having mastered theatre, film and television, Sink explored new territory in November 2021 when she teamed up with Taylor Swift. The singer asked the actress to star in her short film music video for the song “All Too Well,” which was inspired by Swift’s breakup with actor Jake Gyllenhaal and first released in 2012.
