With cases rising sharply, some countries have expanded coronavirus vaccine programs, or reduced the interval between vaccinations, as governments seek to strengthen the protection of their peoples.
In an interview with Israel’s N12 News, Pfizer CEO Albert Burla was asked about the possibility of receiving regular booster doses every four to five months.
“This is not going to be a good scenario. “What I hope (is) is that we will have a vaccine that should be given once a year,” Burla said.
“Once a year – it’s easier to convince people to do it. It’s easier for people to remember. So, in terms of public health, it is an ideal situation. “We are looking to see if we can create a vaccine that covers Omicron and not forget the other variants, and that could be a solution.”
Burla said Pfizer could be ready to apply for approval for a redesigned vaccine to fight Omicron and mass-produce it as early as March.
