Disappointing data from the 3rd Annual Report on Violence Against Women

According to the Report, the SOS 15900 Hotline received a total of 10,324 calls from November 2021 to September 2022, of which 6,969 related to incidents of violence. According to the same data, seven out of ten calls were made by female victims of violence and the rest were made by third parties, i.e. by people from the victims’ friendly or family environment.

The 3rd Annual Report on Violence Against Women was released today and is available on the website of the General Secretariat for Demographic Family Policy and Gender Equality

According to the Report, Telefoniki SOS line 15900 received from November 2021 until September 2022, a total of 10,324 calls, of which 6,969 related to incidents of violence. According to the same data, seven out of ten calls were made by female victims of violence and the rest were made by third parties, i.e. by people from the victims’ friendly or family environment.

According to the same data, a total of 5,295 people, both female victims of violence and people from their environment who received information on the issue of gender and domestic violence, were addressed to the Counseling Centers of the GGDOPIF Network during the same period, while 474 were accommodated in the Hostels persons (223 women and 251 children).

From the same data, it follows that for the eleven months of reference, the survivor-perpetrator relationship is mainly conjugal, by 55.4% and partnership by 18%, while 10.9% concerns another family member.

Regarding the marital status of the women beneficiaries, 43% are married, 20% are single, 12% are divorced and 10% are separated. In addition, 73% of all beneficiary women stated that they have a child/children.

M. Syregela: We do not stay silent – We break the cycle of violence

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Maria Syregela, announced

“The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is a symbolic day for all. It is an opportunity to sensitize even more people to the serious, perennial problem of violence. It’s an opportunity to reflect on individual responsibility in such an important issue, to encourage victims to speak up and report, and together we can break the cycle of violence.” This message is sent by the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Maria Syregela, on the occasion of today’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

According to the deputy minister, “No woman should tolerate any form of violence. We encourage women to break their silence and report. We are on their side. All the structures of the General Secretariat of Demographic and Family Policy and Gender Equality (GDOPIF) and the scientific staff of the free SOS 15900 telephone line, Counseling Centers and Hospitality Hostels support women, help them escape from the abusive environment in which they live and take their lives into their own hands.”
