Mrs. Dimitriou forwarded the document and the publications to the then head of the Corruption Prosecution, Eleni Raikou

The former prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Xeni Dimitriou, testified today during the 20th day of the trial in Special Court where the former Deputy Minister of Justice Dimitris Papagelopoulos and the former head of the Corruption Prosecution Eleni Touloupaki are on trial.

In more detail, Ms. Dimitriou, who had served from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2019, as a prosecutor of the Supreme Court, initially referred to the time of the start of the investigations into the Novartis case, when the then Minister of Justice, Stavros Kontonis, forwarded a relevant document to her for the pharmaceutical industry, and two press reports, which made reference to the case.

Then Ms. Dimitriou forwarded the document and the publications to the then head of the Corruption Prosecution, Eleni Raikou, while other publications were then sent by the Supreme Court prosecutor to Mrs. Raikou. According to the witness, “the reports were saying that political figures were involved.” In fact, in one of them, as he said, reference was made to Ant. Samaras but also to another former prime minister.

At the same time, after a relevant question from the president of the Special Court, Vassiliki Iliopoulou, the witness stated that Mrs. Raikou never expressed complaints against Mr. Papagelopoulos, for the latter’s interference in her work.

Also, to another question from the president of the Special Court about whether Mr. Papagelopoulos to ask Mrs. Raikou to fabricate evidence for a case, the witness replied that it is impossible to fabricate evidence, even if a prosecutor is corrupt. He added that there can be no slander.

At another point in her testimony, Mrs. Dimitriou stated that she never understood the reasons for Mrs. Raikou’s resignation, which are not related to a front page publication of a weekly newspaper of the time and added that Mrs. Raikou alone was led to resign . Probably Mrs. Raikou chose to make a historic exit, noted the former prosecutor of the Supreme Court

The testimony of Kostas Vaxevanis

Previously, the publisher and journalist, Kostas Vaxevanis, had completed his testimony.

Today, the journalist continued his testimony at the Special Court and repeated that the doctor (pathologist) Lazaros Karnezis, husband of the former head of the Corruption Prosecution, Eleni Raikou, was financed by Novartis, as there were deposits in the joint account of the couple with amounts, among others, 1,000, 1,500 euros, while with his other actions (prescribing, etc.) he damaged the Greek State with 1.5 million euros. He also argued that Ms. Raikou should have been excluded from the pharmaceutical industry’s case because of her husband’s relationship with the company.

Furthermore, the journalist pointed out that for the publications in the Documento newspaper, he did not obtain any information from Mr. Papagelopoulos, with whom he had no contact.

Mr. Vaxevanis requested from the court that the minutes of the trial be forwarded to the Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office, in order to criminally investigate the Appellants’ prosecutor, Georgia Tsatani, for false testimony.

Finally, Mr. Vaxevanis answered questions from members of the Special Court.
